Simplex Copper Tea kettle: The Perfect Partner For Tea Times

Simplex copper tea kettle.jpg

As healthy life habit, tea drinking has become increasingly common these days. Anyone who loves tea should have a copper tea kettle. What I am suggestion is this Simplex Heritage Copper Whistling Tea Kettle.

The manufacturer, Simplex, which had been making these kettles since 1903 in their Birmingham factory, suddenly went out of business last summer. New kettles are increasingly scarce. You would have to search high and low for it, and it’s getting tougher to find any, especially the chrome, electric-stovetop models. Actually there are two colors: naturally solid copper and chrome plated one, and each color has 2 models: one is with a specially designed heat retaining base while the other is a normal traditional copper version.

I have gathered information for copper teakettles. Some of them are also well made but none of them is supreme over simplex copper tea kettle in my own opinion.simplex-copper-teakettle_heat_retaining_base

Design of Simplex Copper Tea Kettle

First, this is a traditional English teakettle. As a typical copper tea kettle it has a stationary handle with integral flanges riveted at both ends. Simplex has manufactured top quality copper tea kettles for over 100 years. They dedicate to provide timeless and durable solid copper model with the finest craftsmanship available. Due to its traditional Victorian design this copper teakettle has a unique attraction in your kitchen. It is totally hand made in the United Kingdom from solid copper and features a high gloss finish, pure tin lining.

Features of Simplex Copper Tea Kettle

Heating is super efficient due to solid copper so that you can have the benefits of copper heat conduction. You can keep the burner on low, the copper teakettle will still boil water reasonably quickly. One of the defining characteristics of the English teakettle is a lid, which fits the top opening tightly. In fact, when it is placed in position you can lift the kettle by holding the lid but the handle. This is necessary for the whistle to work properly. When the lid is correctly fitted and snapped in firmly, the kettle will whistle.

If you have steam escaping from around the lid, your lid maybe out of the correct place. This No.1 Simplex teakettle has a pleasant sound not something piercing you may have experienced with other tea kettles. The melodious whistle will gradually become louder, enough to be heard from another room, but not to louder to wake your sleeping children.

The wooden handle on top is not difficult to grasp and pour with, and never hot. The spout pours perfectly every time and is easy to deal with. As you pour, the steam may rise around,  you just feel a warm mist. The opening where you pour the water in is wide enough that I can configure it flat on the counter and pour from my filtered pitcher. The interior is nickel-coated and imparts no flavor to the water, and never seems to need to clean, though that may depend on your water hardness.

Maintenance of Simplex Copper Tea kettle

The copper gradually and beautifully darkens from pink to burnt orange so be prepared to do some polishing periodically. If you don’t want the trouble, get the stainless-clad version, which does not require polishing. I like the look of copper so much that I don’t mind polishing it every 3 months.Once the lid is removed, there is plenty of room inside for your hand if you want to wipe it dry.I never wash the inside of the kettle with soap and water. I simply leave it to air dry, or wipe the inside dry with a paper towel.

Bottom Line

Any serious tea drinker should forget those cheap tea kettles and get this simplex copper tea kettle, you will never regret about this fabulous product. It is perfectly designed for both beauty and functionality. The heating is super efficient due to solid copper sheet. The whistle is divine and lovely. The wooden handle on top is easy to grasp and pour with, and never hot. I do not think you could possibly be any happier with this copper tea kettle.

Other good quality copper teakettle

When you want to get other copper teakettle rather than this Simplex kettle. I would recommend one with these following features. The handle should stay cool. The lid doesn’t fall off when pour, and no leakage from the lid. It should boil quickly, pour nicely, and the whistle will be loud enough to alarm you but not too much to freak you. And it will be sturdy so you don’t have to worry about swinging handle and loosing lid after having it for a substantial period.

Anyway, getting a good quality copper teakettle would be pleasing to brew a cup of tea whenever you want, it leaves you nothing troublesome but a wonderful afternoon teatime.
